I left my heart in the summer sun

The rain was cold today; it felt more icy than Autumn rain ought to feel, and it made me yearn for the warm months of summer where I would spend long days at my cottage, walking about in bare feet, laying in the grass, and basking in the sunshine. Here is a collection of photos I took on one of those dreamy summer days.

Cicadas singing all around me,
the glitter of sunshine, the sway of trees;
the lilies and the ferns dance in the breeze.
Butterflies kiss the open flowers,
blades of grass caress my summer skin.
Here I am renewed, for nature
knows no sin.

paper elements

A little piece of cardboard tacked to my wall in the sunset light.. I made this a while ago using a rectangle of cardboard from a perfume box, and pink paper from a musical brochure.. it was a spontaneous decision. These are the symbols of the four elements: fire, air, water, and earth.

I want to read,
breathe trees,
write poetry,
listen to good music,
and never have to work on anything
but my perspective.

The New World

Don't ask me how I came to find this film called The New World, but I watched it this afternoon after seeing the above picture. I have always been drawn to visuals like that: a forest, a Native, long beautiful hair. I learned the film is based on historical figures John Smith and Pocahontas.
It was quite beautiful. Long, but full of scenery and simple, soft moments narrated by piano playing. I instantly fell in love with Q'orianka Kilcher, the actress who plays Pocahontas.

tassels

It's late, and I've been messing around with this set of photos I took a couple of days ago. I 'made' these earrings; actually they're just hoops and I hung tassels on them, but it's still creative, right? I hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving weekend! I'm thankful for hashbrown casserole.

angel in the afternoon

This is the outfit I wore to the Rumours show last Friday night, though I didn't get a chance to take pictures. However, today was (is) so nice and warm out that I put on the skirt, which had still been hanging over my closet door, and went out with my camera. It took a little longer than it should have because frustratingly, my skirt got all static-y and kept bunching up and sticking to the back of my legs, haha. The entire outfit is thrifted (of course).

gypsy dreams

Let me take you to where the moon laughs all night,
and where, through the trees, the sun smiles bright.
Throughout the forest, voices ring;
souls of nature sing.
Come with me to where the oak grows,
and where the gypsies dance and smoke.

On Friday night, my dad and I went to see Fleetwood Mac's classic album 'Rumours' live! It was so good. Way better than either of us had expected. From beginning to end, the music hit you right in your diaphragm and vibrated your bones; it flowed right through your veins to your fingertips. It was really a great experience, and shows like that always leave me astonished at how artists know where to place certain things in a song, like: oh, there should be some background singing right here, the chords should change right there. And it's things like that that just make the song, right?

rumours

This is what I wore to school a few days ago. I never wear pink. Well, I sported the colour occasionally way back when my mom would choose my outfits every morning, but not since I began making my own decisions. I actually got this sweater in grade nine (that was forever ago) for 'Pink Day' and it's stayed in my closet ever since. But I like how it looks with lazy denim shorts, and it's super comfortable. I'm also taking advantage of all the free space in my room to take pictures (except there's that bad chalk pastel masterpiece behind me..) since I've been cleaning it out.
