wrapping paper

I thought I would share some of the jewelry I got for Christmas because I love it all! I'll admit, I picked out most of it while out shopping for my family.. but Mom wrapped them up anyway.

The bracelet on the right (first photo) is actually a recycled clothes hanger! That's pretty neat. My aunt found it at a place called Recycling Bin.. I haven't even heard of it!

The necklace and earrings with the turquoise beads were from my younger brother, who doesn't talk much, but I guess he quietly absorbs everything I say haha.. the turquoise and the skull were right on.

The rings and some of the earrings were ones I picked out, and from a store you wouldn't guess.. Value Village! I realize a lot of people wouldn't rush there first to buy gifts, but I don't see anything wrong with re-gifting. I mean, if you find something you know so-and-so would love (and it's in good condition), then why the hell not?

Oh, and while I'm talking about recycling here, let me just say that wrapping paper is NOT recyclable. How saddening is that, thinking of the mounds of it people go through around Christmas time. I realize it's always satisfying to see a gift wrapped in a sparkly reindeer pattern, but old flyers and newspaper are recyclable after all.. personally, I wouldn't mind if some old man's face from the front page of the paper was wrapped onto my gift; it's what's inside I'm anxious to tear through to.

Hopefully, when Christmas times rolls around next year, these points might be useful to someone other than myself.

Monday

Now that the weekend is over, I'm all stressed out about everything. Rather than attempt to write a book review on a book I haven't read, I'd prefer to draw or go thrift shopping or lie around cuddling with my guinea pig. I just can't make myself put effort into something I don't want to do. You know??

old October

Nobody understands my love for skulls. I have found them to be especially intriguing since I was small. I would look forward to October for months, excited for when the cardboard boxes marked Halloween would be hauled out from the garage, and I could rummage through the contents searching for that one perfect skull (below). I would carry it around with me, and make up in my mind what face would have fit such a skull. (Don't ask why, but the lovely Norah Jones always came to mind.)
Last month we got out the boxes as we always do, but I couldn't bring myself to put this face back in when November rolled in. It's now sitting contentedly on my bookshelf, guarding my Indian stories.

I've also noticed skulls have become a trend in fashion. I see them as jewelry, as prints on knit sweaters, and I've seen them cut into the back of people's denim vests and jackets. Secretly, this disappoints me in the sense that it's no longer a unique thing I have for them, but that it's now a thing for anyone who has Tumblr.

days that start with S

So I guess this basically sums up my weekend. I finished my little sweater painting; now I'm not sure what to do with it. Saturday and Sunday nights were spent with the boys, and my mom came back from Bangor with a pair of skull earrings for me. Life is.. well, I was going to say good but I guess tomorrow is Monday morning. The week wouldn't be so bad if I could manage my time a little better.

creative flicker

School is stress. All I want to do is clean my room, paint, take pictures, and go outside. BUT I have all this stuff assigned to me, and it all builds up. I do the work (slowly), but they just keep coming; one after the other, and it's consuming my precious me-time. I want to be creative, but stress smothers the flame.

October

October is my favourite month. There's a certain smell about it that I love; decaying leaves and the coming cold. It's this month when the transition from summer to winter is really beautiful, and it inspires me to take pictures. I was walking home this morning and the air was warm, despite the wind, so I stayed outside for a while and took some photos of myself, because I wasn't sure what else there was for me to do.

This is a photo from the summer that I've never posted. What a great little beach.

Hilary

This is Hilary. I did a little photo shoot on Friday, and she was an awesome model. I really like how they turned out, other than the fact a lot of them aren't as clear as I'd like them to be.

getting by

Anyway, I watched The Art of Getting By yesterday, and I probably cried sixty seven times throughout. It's such a raw and realistic movie and Freddie Highmore was so perfect for that part.
